Great stuff - I listened to the first round just yesterday. A suggestion though: Please try to find a setting to record it louder this time. I had to crank up the volume to maximum and still put my ears on the speaker to understand anything. I got the MP3 8KHz recording.

    Thanks,

Andy, I hate to be a nit-picker, but I'm easily confused...

Time is 9 - 10 PM, what time-zone? Please express answer as EST, PST, etc or in terms of GMT time.

    Thanks

Andy is there any way of getting these recorded and put online in mp3 format ? - I'll happily help with the conversion etc - for us out-of-timezone'ers sometimes this is tricky to line up (and not to mention expensive).

Just a suggestion Andy for this roundtable, since he is discussing portraits, maybe including links here to examples in this thread so that those of us listening in can view when he talks about examples. Sometimes its easier to show an example than to explain it orally. Just an idea.
"A photo is like a hamburger. You can get one from McDonalds for $1, one from Chili's for $5, or one from Ruth's Chris for $15. You usually get what you pay for, but don't expect a Ruth's Chris burger at a McDonalds price, if you want that, go cook it yourself." - me

Hi everyone... I'm happy to see the early interest - and honored that Andy asked me to do this.

Candid portraiture is my passion... I love it. Kids being kids is just so great... seniors asking "aren't you going to tell me what to do?" is priceless when they love their results.

I look forward to our conversations!

A couple examples of more recent work...

I marked this one on my calendar thumb.gif

I have always loved your candids Jim clap.gif I have been getting more and more into people shooting and would love to hear about what you have learned, works and doesn't work.

I really like the images you posted in this thread wings.gif One thing though, you really need a more professional looking watermark, IMO eek7.gif I dunno if you just watermarked a few for this post, or not. But your work is so good, I would hate for people to think less of it due to the amatuerish WM ne_nau.gif

Just a few additional questions (not necessarily limited to Jim):

    1) Wardrobe recommendations and wardrobe changes. What do you recommend and do you encourage changes during the shoot?

    2) Skin and complexion problems. Do you try to compensate or correct?

    3) Photographer's Assistant?

    4) Reflectors for outdoor fill?

    5) Do you adjust for subjects sensitive about their weight?

    6) People and their Pets?

    7) Any "mental" preparation or mindset? (I know this one is pretty individual and personal, but ...)

    Thanks,

    Thank You Jim clap.gifbowdown.gif

Thank You Andy and SmugMug for this.

It was really nice to hear your voices!

For those that did not catch it, Jim answered my technical questions and business questions quite thoroughly (without my even asking!!!). I highly recommend catching the recorded version.

Jim certainly provided the groundwork for lots of thinking for me, as I have totally steered away from paid portraiture. As well, Jim reinforced what I knew about him and his style from 'the early days'. It was really great.

I am looking forward to some PSP techniques from Jim.

And another thought came to me - what about a shootout where the focus isn't great landscapes but street or portrait photography?
