I do not know if this is the right place to post this matter. If not, feel free to move it, please.

I have a G5 with 2GB of RAM and I am not happy because it is very, very slow on processing the CR2 files from the 20D.
Bridge works terribly slow ...

The speed looks much lower than with my old computer...
I am very unhappy about this situation.

My son told me that the CS2 is not optimixed for this dual core processor ...:scratch

What am I supposed to do ?
Can you give me any advice, please ?
Obrigado. :thumb

    • More RAM.
    • Repair permissions, run CRONs, run Disk Utility to repair directory structure.
    • Try running from a new user account, to see if there's something in your user that's slowing it down.
    • Make sure you're running the latest version of CS2

Actually, I'm probably wrong about the RAM, as you may have your RAM maxed out on that iMac.

    Yes. I think so too.
My son knows better about that than I do.
But, as much as I can remember, the G5 can only have 2 Gb of RAM.
Wa I wrong when I bought such a machine ?
    I regret the old computer...ne_nau.gif

No, not wrong. You should also be realistic about what you expect. Why are you disappointed with the speed? Do you know how long it takes to render RAW files? I ask, because it can be a surprise, but maybe if you compared it to other computers you might have an idea if there is really something wrong with it, or if your expectations are in line with reality. thumb.gif

10% free, minimum, or you'll run into problems.

    You know what ?
I am going - NOW - to make CDs with the photos in the computer.
    Thank you.
I'll let you know, the result.
    Thank you. thumb.gif

    David,
I made some CDs, erased the files from the computer and noticed some improvement.
Now I have a little more speed.
If ever I had tried such a computer before, I would have bought something better, faster.
    Thank you David.
    All the best to you.

Hey, I don't know how much free space you opened up, but you've got PLENTY now. You really need to keep it above 10%.

You could try downloading Onyx and running the maintenance tab items as well as the clean tab. When cleaning the cache files you don't need to do a deep cleaning, I wouldn't think.

do you have a mac or an imac. imac is the screen and computer together. if you have a g5 tower, that's different. either way, if it's a g5 it does not have intel dual core processors. i believe that the g5's can currently outperform the new intel mac's with photoshop because photoshop isn't a universal app yet. photoshop is a major resource hog on intel mac's right now.
