New Maxtor External - 1TB for $500

Seagate's making Maxtor their bargain brand.

And what a bargain it is. They have a 1TB (2x500GB) external for just over $500. Sounds extremely tempting, to me. I'd like to use something like this to backup my other externals.

Meh, not big enough. It'd only hold 100 photos from my new 18 bazillion MP camera. :D
Shoot, or shoot not. There is no try.

Yeah, I believe it has the "automatic soul capture" feature. mwink.gif

Won't work for me - I already sold my soul . . . to Nikon

What do you think you'll get to backup the backups?

One of these? These are the big bad boys. I have one (at work).

Interesting... And scary. With ID theft today, will copyright theft be right behind? (just wondering out loud)

We can put everyone's soul from Dgrin in there and still have room to store all of our digital images compiled together.

We are looking at something like this for our scratch space. It's pretty
cool and the performance looks to be nicely scalable. We've had a few
problems with the one we have so don't plan on replacing the 6000 series
anytime soon. The other problem we have is the number of files--something
like one billion at our site alone (yup, 1B).

We like EMC alot for some reason. Guess I shouldn't complain though, we haven't had any major problems so far. The one problem were having now is trying to keep our server room cold.

lol, we have a leibert system right now, and since we've added alot of new blade servers the temp has went up. I believe we are going to know a wall out and move the blades to another section by theirselves

Do they exhaust out the top? If so, build a chimeny an push the hot air out
into the plenum above the ceiling. Be careful though. The Leibert wants a
    fair amount of return air.
