Peggy's Cove, N. S.
Peggy's Cove, established 1811, population 40, lays claim to the title 'one of the most photographed places in Canada'. Attesting to that is the fact that both the front and back cover photo of Frommer's Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and PEI are photos of Peggy's Cove.
"According to legend, Peggys' Cove was named after the only survivor of a schooner that ran aground and sank in 1800...a woman named Margret. Local folk called her "Peggy" and her home came to be known as Peggy's Cove. "
We spent an afternoon there last week, with my husbands aunt and uncle and 2 of our 3 children, and about one billion other tourists!!!!
Lunch at Shaws Landing was great:
The hoaky 'lighthouse through ancor ring' shot:
It was necessary to shoot the lighthouse from below in order to avoid all of the people:
The Cove:
Ropes:
and a pano (5 images, panorama factory) looking back to the village from the Swiss Air Memorial site:
This was day 1 of our week in Atlantic Canada. More to come with due time.

Looks like a wonderful place. Ann, thanks for the tour!

Thank you for taking us with you on the trip!
Great shots Ann! We were in Nova Scotia in June, but there was nothing but fog the day we spent in Peggy's Cove. Until I saw your pano shot from the SwissAir memorial, I had no idea you could see the village from that point! Well done!

cove shot is a classic too.
Very pretty.
I need to dig up and scan my old photos. Peggy's Cove looks the same, if memory serves... it's been decades and decades and decades.
I like the red boat and house, never saw the lighthouse thru the rusted iron ring... and the pano is gorgeous!

Love all the pictures, especially the red boat and the rope. We travel to PEI to camp every year...perhaps it is time to go a little further.
Thanks for sharing

This is also several image stitched. A carving into a large hunk of granite, depicting Peggy of the cove to the left (I do not know why she has wings) and villagers hard at work fishing.
There are large boulders like this deposited all about (see the pano from the Swiss Air memorial) - from a glacial event of some sort.

Hi David - well, either there are many red boats in coves like this or this particular photo op is there just for this purpose!!! They say that Peggy's Cove residents still fish (and we did see bouys for lobster pots on the water) but I think this is a very well known and photographed boat!
Thanks!!

Thanks! I knew as we walked up to the memorial that I was in for a special shot. I am going to print that one and send it to our hosts for the visit. Just debating leaving all the rocks in the foreground.

Hi Dee
Well, Peggy's Cove (and frankly many places we visited this trip) have a 'time stands still' sense to them - timeless, never changing, classic, a cynic might say backward....
It would be cool to see your shots!
Thanks

Ramblings About Me
Hi Dan
If you are in PEI you are not too far away - I think it is about 21/2 hours by highway from the bridge to Halifax, then another half hour or so to Peggy's. Lots of beautiful countryside around - I will have to go back.

When we heard that we were flying into a hurricane we were pretty worried about the weather! But it seemed that it just kept going east and we got great weather by and large the whole week.
Saint John is a really neat city. I will have shots to post from there soon (I hope)
Thanks for all the tips.
