I think at some point, some dgrinners have been curious about what I do. What do grad students do in general? Heck, maybe you're even curious what grad students look like.

I'm hoping this image may shed some light on our rare species for some of you...

If Andy were here, he'd say: enjoy cheesy dashboard mounted photography! :lol3

Very cool... ok, inquiring dorks like me want to know how you mounted the camera, and more importantly what focus priority you use for this. I have more problems with point of focus than any other issue with my photography. Lighting I can overcome, but sometimes I just can't get the focus right.

Very funny shot. Are you the one in the passenger seat?

Ah, good question. As with any good graduate research, much time and care was put into a very robust solution... In other words, we wedged the camera between the windshield and my wallet, put the point&shoot camera in full auto mode (that would include fully auto focus using who knows what priority), and used the 10-sec timer.
    :D

And yeah, that's me in the co-pilot spot. wave.gif

I guess I should add, this wasn't a very technical shot: just used the trusty Pentax Optio W20 in smiley-face easy-mode.

    You've forgotten the beer.

But maybe that's what you're in the car to get :)

As a matter of fact, beer is partially the reason I'm not driving... well that and the single-malt. Mmmm, mmmm - there's plenty of industry peeps and professors around at conferences, so we get to drink some tasty stuff. We are on our way back to Amherst from Portland, ME.

Thanks all, but this is serious stuff! .... NOT! lol3.gif

I've never been curious about what you do.

    Maybe it's just me.

This image is cropped too tight and the lighting is not very good and your choice of models is sorely lacking! :D

Stu, send models and I'll reshoot. Maybe we can address the crop issue by not using one of those silly British Mini's next time...

Fun shot! Brings back too many memories... eek7.gif

I could do the modelling myself I think, Im in Providence at the moment and driving up to cape cod today and then Boston on wednesday so I could pop around.

I could also supply a bigger vehicle as the american car im renting is larger than my studio at home!

Of course he's not feeling ok! He's (a) stuffed in the back seat of a mini and (b) he's the most junior grad student in our lab. We keep him "busy". lol3.gif
