It's not fun. Since I bought my sony a100 in august, my HD that had 60GB is gone (full I mean)... now I'm looking for external storage on a budget. Sure I'd want a 1TB RAID solution, but I don't have the money to spend.

Best buy is selling the WD 250GB My Book for 99.00 (42 cents/GB after tax). That's the best deal I could find.

Out of 10 reviews that I found online, one is bad (very bad actually), but that's the case with most of other external HDs that I saw... so I wanted to hear from you if you have any experieces with this HD or if you have another suggestion on the same range (40 to 60 cents/GB, more than 150GB)

TIA

I have a wd 250, but I guess the previous model-

load the software, plug it in, use it-

I've had no problems with it-

sounds like a real good deal-

you might check newegg for price and for some more reviews-

Thanks for the hint. I checked there and it's more expensive. I think I'll run to best buy before they end the promotion.

Last time I was at Costco they had em there as well. No idea what the price was though. I've been using an older WD external drive without issue for 2 years.

$70.00 off a $169 drive is gonna be tough to beat.

I picked up a WD My Book at a clearance sale last week (400GB) and love it so far. It's not the fastest external I've had, but it's not the slowest either. Average speed. Some perks tho - tiny footprint on the desk, it has USB2 and Firewire, and pretty glowing lights rolleyes1.gif(that actually tell you current capacity used and left). What more could ya ask for thumb.gif

I think these external HDs are way overpriced. The only thing I think you get is a 'button' to force a backup, a backup that you should run daily, automatically anyway. And those fancy NAS devices look cool, and are a neat idea, but are really useful only if you have a number of PCs on the network that need access to the same data or storage.

A simpler, and just as effective solution is to purchase an external USB or Firewire harddrive enclosure, add whatever harddrive is in this Sunday's flyer at a great rebate deal, and plug into your PC. I have 160GB drives i spent $60 on total. For this price, get four. Plug them in (all of them if you like, or just swap them as you archive photos. I use Microsoft Synctoy to automatically add photos to them twice a day.

Too late, I'm transfering my photos this exact moment. clap.gif

Considering the price I paid, it's almost the same price per gig of your solution. DifferentSeed is right, the glowing light is cool :D

You have to be careful tho...many times I have noticed that buying the drives and enclosures separately can actual cost you more than an external of same capacity on sale......

All of my externals are Metal case cases with Maxtor and seagate internal drives...got lucky bought my cases as a close out and the drives on ebay for less than retail sale price ......
