I'm always amazed how many people find my site and photos, through my keywords, and I am not even selling my photos. I've just keyworded them to make it easier for me and my friends/family. SmugMug pages rank extremely high in google searches in general.

YES! Do it, religiously - all pics. All gallery descriptions. Captions. Stick to it.

Also:

* start a blog
* post on forums, link to your website
* get other websites to link to you
