here is a macro of an australian bulldog ant or bullant-the early settlers named them bulldog ants due to their aggression ,toughness and nasty bite.

its not perfect as i was a little hesitant in getting closer so used close up achromats and telephoto-its therefore a crop-I will go back and refine technique in getting closer-the problem is that if you get close to the nest a swarm of soldiers like this one swarm out and attack you-its not the jaws you have to worry about -they use those to hold onto you and then double up and inject you with venom from the abdomen.

the sting is very painful.this is a small one -some are about an inch long and the bigger they are the angrier they get and the worse the sting.

i will endeavour to get closer and get better focus next time but thought you might like to see one close up.
