Very nice Daniel. The shot of the lionesses has a special quality. clap.gif Very interesting compositions also. You are really doing the smart thing taking these workshops. They will improve your photography much more than any gear expenditure.

iloveyou.gif The lioness photo! "My" zoo, (National Zoo in DC) doesn't have any way to get "close" the big cats and they're always hiding anyway...or sleeping.

Very cute Kanga (roo) too! Fun comp and very nice clarity and depth of field!

I like the tree kangaroo, but it looks the the picture was scanned?? (Which I'm pretty sure it wasn't since I think you shoot digital). There are horiztonal stripes in the background. Also, it looks like you focused on his/her foot on the branch. I wish the focus was on his face or that there was a more forvinging depth of field.

Sorry if you didn't want crit! Ignore me :) Thanks for posting!

I'll bet the banding you are seeing is from a wire cage in the background. And I'm going to guess that 3,4, and 7 were indoors in low light so a wide open aperture was used to keep the shutterspeed up. Zoos are not as easy to shoot in as you might expect. Good work Daniel.

Good call, 'cause on closer inspection I can't see it at all in the wood or on the tree kangaroo. Darn fences, but really nice job minimizing it's visibility, it is hardly noticable. :)

I assumed the same thing for the bird pictures which is why I didn't really comment on them, but that first bird (shot #3) has some awesome coloring that Daniel did a GREAT job catching. I sympathize with the difficulties of low light, especially since I don't have a fast lens.

Daniel, also looking at your album, I LOVE the elephant pictures. Such character!

The picture of the silver back with his back turned is pretty special too. I'm not sure if you can rotate it because of the way the ground slopes and the trees. But maybe a tad bit of anti-clockwise rotation to even him out would "finish" the photo. I love the composition though, makes him seem so lonely.

These are absolutely amazing. I love both the color, simplicity of composition, sharpness (which I can NEVER get in a zoo!), and the personality of the subjects in these photos.

May I ask what lenses you've used for some of these?

    I'm stunned, literally. FABULOUS job!
