Just found a deal at Newegg. A-Data 8GB CF card for only $114 after the rebate. I am tempting, but want to know if anyone has experience with this particular brand. I know people like Sandisk etc brand. But a chip is a chip right?

Yes and no. Sometimes an off brand is a slower version of a brand name
part. Maybe it's a Chinese company that has just entered the market.
Different cards use different designs and possibly different manufacturing
    processes.

Rob Galbraith often has more complete reviews of memories. Have a look
there. If you don't know, the question you have to ask is if you're willing to
drop $100 to find out how good it is.

Ive never had any experiance with the card mentioned but something you need to keep in mind is if you need a fast writing card, at that price its more than likely not very fast. Ive had great luck with 1GB and 4GB models of Ritec/Ridata Pro 150x. They are very fast and real close to sandisk extreme IIIs speed. Sandisk has been around along time so they may be more durable, and most people would probably recomend them over the Ridata. But the 4GB ridata only cost me $85.00. The 8GB model goes for about twice that.
    Best regards,

As my siggy shows I use both Lexar (2gb 80X) and Transcend (8gb 120X) .....and I am quite happy with the transcend....I just need to get at least 1 more transcend 8gb 120X.....and will probably keep my lexars (2gb 80X) as back ups.

You should do a google one the brand name.
