20D file numbering help

I lent my 20D to a friend's wife as a backup last weekend for a wedding. Previously, my numbering was sequential and I could tell exactly how many pictures had been taken. The pictures I had taken before the wekend were in the "157CANON" folder and numbered "IMG_57xx". I get the camera back and shot some pics on the same card last night. I checked them this morning and the folder was "216CANON" and the files were numbered from "IMG_1618". How can I get the pics back in the proper sequence?

    Answer found via Google

    1. Format the card (after transferring all your pics first!)
    2. Card back in camera, take a pic
    3. View the file on the card with your card reader
    4. Rename the folder and files to be what you want
    5. On the camera menu, change Continuous numbering to Auto Reset
    6. Take a pic, check the file name in-camera (should be reset to your specs at this point)
    7. Change numbering back to Continuous
    8. Get out and shoot!

    Tristan,

Good stuff to know! Thanks for sharing.

I hope someone adds this to the "Hall of Wisdom"?

I renamed the one new pic to my highest number taken and hoped it would
go from there. I found the tricky part was getting the right folder
name/number to correspond with the latest file number. It took me about
three or four times to get it right. The number part of the folder name
seems to set where the new numbers start.

This is what I currently have on card from 20D.
    243CANON
    ..... IMG_4400.CR2
    244CANON
    ..... IMG_4401.CR2

Notice the 243. That corresponds to 4301-4400
Notice the 244. That corresponds to 4401-4500

    Hope this helps
