This is Battersea Power Station, which was built by the same architect who created the building that now houses Tate Modern. It once powered 1/5 of London, but was decomissioned in the late 70s/early 80s. For most of my lifetime this imposing grade II listed building on the south bank of the Thames has been in disrepair and off limits to the public.

Apparently St. Paul's Cathedral would fit inside one of the 3 turbine halls, without even touching the sides. That gives you an idea of how big it is.

The roof was ripped off in the 80s (someone was planning to turn it into a theme park, but they ran out of cash). The missing roof meant yet more dilapidation.

There is currently an art show being staged within it, so I was finally able to get up close to it and have a look around, before the site is finally redeveloped.

Coincided nicely with my new DSLR purchase too. Oh, I'm going to have fun. :D

Thanks for looking.
