Since I know you and know you won't get your feelings hurt -- I'd say you went a little overboard on the leaves!:D
Lighting is everything.... have you tried putting a bunch of colorful leaves on a picnic table with the sun behind them, and then using a light fill in front with a reflector? Squat down so you don't see the table much, just the leaves and sky. You should get vivid color from the backlit sun, and enough fill where you won't have to mess too much with shadow/highlight filters.
Hmmm.... in a couple of months you can shoot more ice crystals on your windows... I really enjoyed those.
