This is a shot of my home town Winnipeg caught in between two seasons.
This is also my first shot i applied the Orton technique on. Please give me your feed back on the shot and the effectiveness of the applied technique.
Thanks B!

I'm not familiar with the Orton technique by name, but have seen similar filters. I think you have to be choosy about the shot you use this kind of technique on. It blows out the whites entirely and most of the sky as well, so I don't think it's too successful with a shot including snow, which doesn't have much detail to begin with. But, it can do some lovely things with light and colors like yellow and green. So it works particularly well with plants , trees and landscapes and is interesting with highlights and shadows, exaggerating both. We're having summer all over again out here this week in Calif. and you're having snow!

    Yee gads!
    Sorry, but.... you asked. mwink.gif

Whatever that technique has done to your image has not improved it. In fact, it has had the opposite effect. If you want it to look like winter, just wait a few more weeks when it happens for real and get the camera out again.

Ugh...afraid I have to agree with David. The first shot is okay, the second one is -- sorry, just my opinion -- a dismal failure, would probably go in the round file if it were on my table. Chalk it up to a learning experience...also might work on another shot, but not this one. Best regards,

I agree with the others. I actually thought the first image was quite nice and really gave me a feel for the changing seasons.

Snow 'crawling up' the trees to overtake fall colors I thought was very cool.
