I have a Sigma 50-500 f/4-6.3 lens that recently had some problems. The aperture blades were stuck in a nearly fully closed position. When I looked through the viewfinder it was like the depth of field preview button was being pressed constantly. Also the part of the lens that connected to the camera was quite loose. It was odd.

So I sent the camera in to an address I found on Sigma's website with a note with my address and a description of the problem (like they say to do) on the 13th (Friday) with shipping that would get it there by Monday the 16th. Just today (the 23rd) I got the lens back in perfect working order, a note that said repaired, and a lens cloth along with it. All of this was for free.

I've got no clue how difficult it was to fix (apparently not so much) but I still think that is great service and I really applaud Sigma for that. Just thought someone may like to know.

When did you buy your lens? Was it still under warranty?
My Tokina lens does the same thing. But being its only a $150 lens, I dont know if its worth the money to even have it repaired. What did they say was wrong with yours?

Glad you had it fixed free of charge though ;)

that is very impressive I must now consider that as an optional lens I really want something out to 500mm but don't want to pay for a canon prime yet.

Mike - Would you mind posting the address you shipped your lens to??

Other readers might like to see it.

It is reassurring that Sigma has a repair facility to stand behind their products.

HandleBar - I have posted several threads about the Tamron SP 200-500 DI lens

Reviews on the web criticize this lens for chromatic aberration, but I have not seen this in mine. You can inspect thei images in these threads and see for yourself. It is not a replacement for an L Super Telephoto from Canon, but it is a very useful tool used with good long lens technique.

Good to know, Mike. I've never had any problems with my Sigma lenses (knock on wood), and always had nothing but great things to say about the product. I'm glad that the service matches the product.

Good point. The Sigma repair address that I used is this:

    Sigma Corporation of America
    15 Fleetwood Court
    Ronkonkoma, NY 11779

I got that from Sigma's service webpage.

And about the 50-500, I think it's a really fun lens. It's massive though. Really massive. Be prepared to get stared at if you own one. Personally I think it's quite a good performing lens too.
