Smugmug Exif data corrupted if location stamped with RoboGeo

Hi,

The exif data for some of my photos is corrupted or missing. The fields usually impacted are the Date Taken, Date Digitized, and exposure time fields. The common denominator for all these photos is that I used the utility RoboGeo to add gps coordinates from a tracklog. Here is an example of one photo that was affected:

Photo page: http://ddebold.smugmug.com/gallery/1995828/5/104565150
Exif Data: http://ddebold.smugmug.com/photos/newexif.mg?ImageID=104565150

I checked the original photo (http://ddebold.smugmug.com/photos/104565150-O.jpg) using the Opanda exif reader utility and the data looks just fine there. All fields are readable.

Are there any known Smugmug/RoboGeo incompatibilties? Maybe I should submit this as a bug to the RoboGeo site? :D

RoboGeo makes it extremely easy to automatically location stamp my images so I'd like to get this to work properly. Since the Date Taken field shows up empty these photos don't show up in the correct place in the Smugmug timeline feature.

thanks,

Don

    Hi,

I tagged all these photos with robogeo a year+ ago... http://www.moonriverphotography.com/gallery/734406

I'm not sure we can blame Robogeo. We do have issues reading some Nikon exif, depending on how it's processed after the camera. Do a control please, upload a file right from the camera, no robogeo. Then process the file w/ robogeo, too. Share both links pls?

    Thanks.

Oh and wave.gif welcome to Dgrin!

I conducted 4 test cases and narrowed the problem down:
    1. Capture in raw mode, convert to jpg in Nikon Capture NX, post to Smugmug => Result: exif data ok
    2. Capture in raw mode, convert to jpg in Nikon Capture NX, geocode with RoboGEO, post to Smugmug => Result: corrupted exif data
    3. Capture in jpg mode, post to Smugmug => Result: exif data ok
    4. Capture in jpg mode, geocode with RoboGEO, post to Smugmug => Result: exif data ok
So, it appears this problem only occurs for images from my Nikon D50 that have both been processed in Nikon Capture NX AND geocoded with RoboGEO. All 4 of the images can be found appropriately captioned in this gallery:
