Hi Folks,

Sorry to impact everyone, but we will be swapping in some new networking equipment during the scheduled maintenance window this week (Thursday/Friday 10/26/06 - 11:00pm PDT - 0400 PDT). Unfortunately, this will require a full outage since we will be relocating our connections.

Onethumb also has some database updates he's going to be doing during this period as well.

We hope that this won't take much longer than an hour or two, but as usual, Murphy always has stuff in store for us. We'll try to prep as much as we can ahead of time to minimize fallout.

During the maintenance, we will update this thread. I will also ask Andy to send out a message to everyone via your Smugmug control panel (sorry, our email list isn't up yet) since my net connection hasn't been stellar today.

The end result means much more capacity for your browsing and uploading! We will be adding a new Gigabit provider, as well as much faster routers.

Thanks, and again, sorry for the inconvenience.

Saw this info in a message on my website long before I saw it here-- so that's very cool. Can't say thank you enough for keeping us informed-- both here and through messages posted when we're logged into our websites. thumb.gif

Now if you could just postpone the event I have to shoot and post Thursday night/Friday morning...

    Excellent Service !!! --- Thanks !!
    clap.gif CAN'T BEAT THE SERVICE.

I don't know about everyone else, but I got to say the service I have gotten from Smugmug, can't be beat. thumb.gif

Most companies care only about one thing -- MONEY -- screw the service.
Making the system bigger & faster sounds great!

Keep up the great work & excellent services!

It seems pretty fast for me in Colorado. Good work on making all the upgrades successfully!

So, have you kept all your old connections, or replaced them with the gigabit line?

We added a couple more gigabits, and have a few more coming in the next few weeks.

More importantly, though, our edge gear is now capable of terabits. :)

Before the upgrade tonight, we had a pair of old (but still decent) Cisco routers with three providers: a single gigabit connection, and two FastE connections (each router had a primary and secondary connection for a total of six). Unfortunately the router was unable to perform to full GigE speeds back to our core network.

Tonight, we put in a pair of 10Gigabit line-speed capable routers, each with a pair of gigabit connections. One legacy provider, one new one. The two FastE connections remain offline for the time being. Next week, I will bring up a third gigabit connection once the provider completes some upgrades.

We don't typically push enough traffic to saturate one GigE connection (yet), so we certainly have plenty of room to grow on the network side of the house.

I'm really looking forward to hearing feedback on how much of an improvement this is. :) If you can provide your public IP address, that would be much appreciated.

Nonilady, your photos will process. There's a bit of a queue right now. Sorry about that.
