Stats question (right folder??)

Not sure if this is the right folder, but I have a question about the hits stats.
I thought my number of hits was high as only really my family use the site, so when I uploaded some new shots in a brand new gallery, I immediately checked the stats. I had over 138 hits in the nano second between creating the folder and checking the stats.
Each time you add a photo, does that count as a hit?

Just curious.
