Slow to autofocus - if at all. Help.

Hello all,

I recently purchased a second hand Canon 85mm EF 1:1.8 Ultrasonic lens. I got it from a work collegue but didn't try it on my camera first (he works interstate). He used it on the same camera I use (20D).

It seems to be slow to autofocus, and sometimes won't focus until I manually get it close, then it will work.

Is there something wrong with the lens? Is it fixable? Is this normal?

Cheers

I had a similar problem with my Canon 50 1.8. Although I was using it with an old Canon Rebel II. It would barely move to focus at all on that camera. But when I switched it to my 20D, it worked fine. It also seems to have fixed itself since it works on the Rebel II.
