There are definitely good pictures in that set thumb.gif

Those are "casual" shots, yet not just ordinary: there is a little "something" that does works :)

In the meantime, I do think the blur effect on images 6 & 7 are too "old-school", sort of :D Like 80's prints :D

It's a bit too much, especially because those shots seem quite okay without the blur.

The 8 one is funny… but out of focus, isn't it? I guess you've putted it here because it's definitely a good idea, but out is focus… damn it kills it :cry You'll have to set another pick-nic day to do it again :D

Anyway, sorry if I sounded harsh somehow, and, by the way: your colors are just fine thumb.gif , but irregular from one picture to another :-/
have a quick look at my portfolio (there's a photolog, too) :: (11-07-2006) experiencing a new flash portfolio. What do you think?

Antoine - you did just fine in your comments - I perceive no harshness!

15524779-Ti.gif with all Antoine's comments (except the one about his being harsh) - I think these are some very lovely photos. I just don't think they are quite finished.
    • I think you did very well controlling the exposure - you had it very tough with the very deep black tops. Would have been a lot easier had the ladies worn something a little lighter.
    • #2 seems a little flat some how - it would benefit from a little pop
    • #3 the B&W conversion could, I believe, benefit from a little more contrast. You also cut off a part of that little girl's arm. Maybe you could re-crop it and grow it back for her?
    • My favorite pose is #3 - would love to see it in color though.

I think they look great. I agree number 8 is out of focus...maybe some editing to that picture can make it sharper. Great job. wings.gif

    Thank you Scott and Antoine.

I appreciate the critique as well as the information. I am still learning about keeping all the hands and fingers in the frame. I do not photoshop so cannot add pop or make shot #8 any sharper. I just have to accept or re-shoot.
This was also my first time working with a flash- still learning about that as well.

Scott here is # 3 in color and the link to the entire gallery.

A lot of lovely pictures, but I love the playfulness of the black and white one with one girl on each side of the tree.

Also, beware, the last picture of the girls in the tree? Check out the bark next to the younger girls left elbow (so as you're looking at the picture, the right). There is a swastika carved into the tree. Maybe you can clone it out?

Probably the best way to do :p
    (in my opinion)

Meanwhile, Photoshop (or something similar) might really help adjusting your colors. Now you say it, I guess the color cast is due to the flash: its color may have changed from one strike to another.

Ouch! eek7.gif I hadn't see that one… not the best for family picture, indeed :D

:jawdrop Gosh that's too bad...I totally didn't see that. You definately need to smooth it out in Photoshop...or e-mail it to someone who does have Photoshop...it's an easy fix.

    Aaron,

I took you up on your invitation to browse the gallary. You have some nice shots in there, aside from the ones you posted. These are a couple of my favorites.

This one, will a little crop would be very sweet, at least I think so.
    106439416-S.jpg

Crop this to a fairly tight head & shoulders shot and it would just rock!
    106447060-S.jpg

Anyway, as being a first time using flash for fill - you did wonderfully!thumb.gifthumb.gif

Thank you Scott! I will look into the cropping when I get a chance.
