#3 is my favorite, but I like the last gate too. I love pictures of gates and doors. :):

Jen,
That is a photo of sunlight shining through a window in an 11th century church . Underneath that stone floor are the remains of a prevoius roman dwelling , probably a villa as it is widely reported that there is a mosaic floor at one end .
The church itself has a fascinating history ............

A tiny church on its own in the Windrush Valley, found in 1904 to be built on the base of a Roman house or temple. Mainly 13th century it has remnants of an 11th centurt Saxon or Norman building, e.g. the dividing wall, a chevroned corbel and the plain rough font plus several 14th century paintings .

I have been inside the church , and taken some photos [ 14th century murals are still visible on the walls ] .....it really is in a lovely rural setting , half way betwix two villages .
Rumour has it that it originally was surrounded by a dozen or so cottages , a mill and a Manor house , but the village was beset by the Black Death in the 14th century - as a result the inhabitants either died or left , and no one from the surrounding villages would go near the place to assist .
You can still see the grasy hummocks in the ground around the church where dwellings once stood , but were left to go derelict as folk thought that if they went near they would die ............. they would not even go to reclaim the stone from which the buildings were made .

Beautiful photos. I love the architecture on that gate - I have to say I've never seen anything like it before!

I found it unusual as well .................. it is located at the rear of the main building that is ............... Blenheim Palace , Woodstock [ birthplace of Winston Churchill ] .

Beautiful! If you need a roommate let me know! I need to start saving up pennies so I can afford a vacation.

Love the sun through the window, landing on the floor shot and that gate looks wicked!

Thank you for posting!

Christina ,
The UK is very diverse in landscape , and we are lucky to have it all within reasonable reach , you can travel for a day and see a multitude of vista , which I love .
The US and Canada have both got some awesome scenery , and I would love to have the time and money to explore them , but will have to make do with looking at all the fabulous photos provided by folks on sites like this - it's so interesting to see peoples different perception and angles in all the shots .
I'm an infant in photography terms , but learning all the time , and loving doing it - living in the countryside like I do affords me the pleasure of seeing it all on my doorstep , and that I really appreciate .

Thanks
Steve
