Came upon this cat while looking for some birds to photograph. I was so close I couldn't get him in the frame with my 100-400 with 1.4 extender. This was taken at San Joquin Wildlife Sanctuary in Orange County, CA.
C&C welcomed.

Super capture! An excellent behavioral shot.

I'm curious about your setup using a TC1.4x with the 100-400. I tried that combo a few times, and gave up on it because I lose autofocus. That's with the 20D. Did you manual focus that shot?

Well you did find a bird, even if the cat found it first. Nice capture, I would think that is somewhat unusual to encounter a Bobcat that close. That's probably a once-in-a-lifetime encounter, too bad you didn't have a somewhat shorter lens.

I just upgraded to to the 1DMkIIN and have no problem with the 1.4 and autofocus but do with the 2X extender. I believe they will autofocus up to F8.

Nice shot of the SJWS bobcat! thumb.gif I had a similar experience when he/she walked by me and I had my 400mm with a 1.4tc. There should be a number of bobcats running around SJWS now, as a mother with four kittens was spotted awhile back.
