My Grandfather!
My grandfather came down from Vermont this weekend to visit some of his family (yay!).. snapped this picture last night. No flash, custom white balance. XTi 50mm f/1.8, 1/80, ISO800. Thought it came out nicely!

Points to watch for:
* shadows thrown by ceiling light from the glasses - this is hard to overcome
* shooting through the glasses means reflections (his left eye) - polarising filter helps for that
* I'd sharpen his eyes just a little bit to give them a bit of spark - they look dull throught the glasses
* also if you wanted a more sanitised portrait you'd position your grandfather insuch way that the background is a bit more uniform (no furniture). I know this may be hard in domestic settings but can be done. I know this is picky but the background is not balanced for me.

vertical orientation. It would be a great way to get rid of the dead space
on the right/left.

I'd try a tighter crop and as usual (at least for me) a B/W conversion. Something like this. Just a thought.
PS: don't knwo why but the shot "suggested" me a square format, a bit Hasselbladish....
That saved a wretch like me!

Nice job Judah...I think it's much better than the original.

Thanks, and you are right... I do like that better. Was so busy I didn't have time to revisit the photo. I will try again with the original a little later on.
Hi J,
mine was just a suggestion. I'm glad you appreciated it.
