My favorite eagle

Hi Y'all,

The eagle at the Viera Wetlands has become my favorite eagle. Last year's model was a royal pain. It was not tolerant of humans and would fly off as soon as you approached. You had to shoot from your car window as soon as you saw it. This year the eagle has been in the same spot at the same time every day so far. He isn't bothered when you approach and set up your camera and tripod and will hang out for at least an hour on most days.

These were shot with the D2X and the 500mm F/4 lens with a 1.4 TC except for the last shot. The last shot was with the D200 and the 300mm F/4 and 1/4 TC.

Come on down to the February wildlife shoot and you should have a shot at this one.

I like it too Ric. The problem is that the eagle usually only hangs out in that tree when she's completely backlit. There were two eagles in the tree when I started to get into position but the smaller one took off before I could get the shot. :cry

He's quite a bird, Harry, well done again!
I found a pair of Great Horned Owls that do the same thing, just sit there while you shoot away.

Went to shoot them again yester eve and a guy saw me looking for them and told me where to find a pair of nested eagles. PM me and I'll pass along the locations if you want to shoot them.

    Harry,

Those are fantastic. The adult eagles in our area area are pretty jumpy and will not let you get close. Some of the juveniles, however, will let you walk up right near the tree and shoot them until they get bored with you and fly off. I wish it was the reverse but I will take what I can get.

    Craig.

Thanks Jeff. This eagle is just wonderful. the first time I had a good look at her she hung around for 4 hours and the last two times she stayed perched for over an hour each time. Folks were driving by, setting up tripods, etc and none of that bothered her. I'm sure her pattern will change once the nest is built and hopefully some eggs are laid.
