Side handle flash

ok I'm looking to see what kind of flash everyone is using....

I grew up with a great ole Sunpak 544 side handle and I loved it.... now I'm digital I want the same kinda thing. The only one I can find is the Metz. Is there another option that someone can clue me in on?

I just don't like the top shoe mounts.

Don't know what system you're on, but the Nikon's D70/D200 can fire the SB600/800 remotely via the onboard flash. I use this all the time now... often just hold the SB with one hand out to the side. Extremely flexible and easy.



Other than that, I've never even seen anything besides a remote cord and various flash brackets. What's a side handle?

Thanks Erik, I have the Canon 20d/30d with the sigma flash that I can slave as well. I haven't done much with it but I'll give it a try.

Here is a Metz that I'm looking at but just wanting to know what else is out there besides the Metz.

I think you mean "handle mount flash" and they are still available, just not in the numbers they once were.

SunPak and Metz are very much the kings in this category.

You can also buy brackets to position a hot shoe similar to a handle mount flash (you have to supply a method to fire, like an off-camera flash cord or slave):

I use all sorts of different flash, depending on the effect I'm looking for. I also have a large array of flash modifiers and accessories, to give me great diversity in lighting.

I have around 8 hot shoe flashes, 3 handle mount flashes, 2 monolights, optical and radio slaves, flash meters, light stands, softboxes, tents, umbrellas, reflectors, diffusors and diffusion panels, snoots and flags.
