I noticed that all the photos that have been watermarked no longer have EXIF embedded in tehe JPG. Is this a bug? Or is this meant to be? Why?

Thanks. ws

    Exif
Only the original size has the EXIF, when the images are resized the EXIF is stripped.

Thanks. Somehow I didn't realize that before. Thanks for pointing it out. Any reason why this is done?

Yes. To improve the viewing experience, and make the file sizes smaller.

You can always copy the exif link, and share it. If you want to view exif on the page, on your site, try critique style :)

Not that I'm trying to start an arguement or anything, but how does stripping the EXIF improve the viewing experience - other than making the file size smaller which would help in faster loading: or is that what you where referring to? <img src="https://us.v-cdn.net/6029383/emoji/eek7.gif" border="0" alt="" >

For me personally, my viewing experience would be improved having the info there as I always want to know that information when I see a really nice photo to the extent I have extensions (FF) to allow me to view EXIF information (if available of course).

You hit the nail on the head - it makes loading the photo much faster. 10-200% faster, to be exact, depending on the size.

OK - thats a 100% valid arguement...dang...now you're making me wonder if I should change my site.

Ok - if I set my galleries to NOT show the exif (I use the smugmug gallery setup, and I currently allow the viewer the option to see the exif),will this help? Or is the EXIF pre stripped unless you hit the EXIF link to view it? (does that make sense??)

There's no overhead on exif being allowed as a clickable link on your site. Leave it as is :D

how much space does EXIF usually take up? a few kB at most?

anyway to improve the quality of the watermarked photos? the jpg compression artifact is pretty bad.

The jpg compression on watermarked images is the same as on non-watermarked images. Can you give us an example to look at? Thanks!
