I couldn't resist posting a few photos from a day trip to D.C.

Nikon D200 and Sigma 18-200. (I think they were all with the 18-200 - mainly I was just there doing snapshots...didn't use a tripod or change lenses but a few times)

Amazing what a descent camera and good light can do for ya! :) I was in P mode for all of these shots and matrix metering for most photos, occasionally switching to spot metering as needed. I did have the Nikonians D200 custom settings for landscapes applied in-camera for these as well. http://www.nikonians.org/dcforum/DCForumID202/17033.html

Finally, this one is a little out of place, BUT he WAS down on the national mall near the monuments. Chilling out in a willow tree. If nothing else, I figured HarryB would appreciate this one! It's a heron right? :D

Oh....one more. I know there are at least a few people here that will like this one. See that name in the foreground? :) This is part of the Korean War Memorial. I guess the names of the countries involved were listed here along the sidewalk/path near the display of the soldiers.

Lovely images, my favs are the Washington Memorial and the White House. In 1960 I climbed the stairs all the way to the top of the WM, don't think I could do it again, but the view from there was great.
    Have a great day!

Thank you :) I don't know if you can even take the stairs these days. I think they force everyone to use the elevator. Yes...there's an elevator in the center of the monument rolleyes1.gif Seems strange when you look at it, but there's one in there!

Your right about the elevator inside of the WM, we were on a senior class trip, they gave us 1 hour there and the line for the elevator went clear around the monument, took me 20 min to go up, 5 min to stick the camere out the windows and shoot, 15 to come down, I made the bus and was the only one to get to the top. your shots brought back memories, thanks.
    Have a great day!

Thank you, Sir :) I've got more! Once I get more ready and uploaded I'll add more on here. That's the worst part of the photography process for me...digging through tons of photos and picking out what you want, then editing if necessary.

Great shots...I took my first and only trip to DC in the spring of 2002. These shots bring back some great memories with my wife and two daughters. I wish the WWII memorial had been opened on my trip.

    Thanks for posting

Love all the photos. Hope your trip was fun and relaxing.

Thanks. The WW II memorial is probably one of the best ones there. It's really nice. The cool thing about D.C. is all the free museums. If you can go at a time of year when the crowds aren't there, it's much better.

Thanks to the rest of you too :D . And Seneca, sorry to hear about your husband's brother :( There always seems to be little momentos left behind at those war memorials. Especially the Vietnam one.

I really have to give Nikon a big thumbs up on the photos. Like I said earlier, I was mainly just out walking around taking snapshots without a tripod and using a relatively cheap lens (Sigma 18-200)...and in P mode on the camera. I rarely stray from P mode unless I want to control the depth of field, but there was no need for that on these shots. So basically, I let the camera do the thinking and I simply pointed it towards what I wanted and pressed the button :) I was amazed at the photos when I started reviewing them on my PC. Some probably have a little too much color because of the "Landscape" custom settings I used in-camera (per the Nikonian's spreadsheet), but in general I like how they turned out.
