This time of the year, little critters like this are certainly not a rare sight, but seeing one too busy to run away from me is. This guy was so bent on getting that nut out of the shell that I was practically standing right under him by the time I'd finished taking shots.

I'm not much of a wildlife photographer so I don't have an arsenal of telezoom lenses. But I think the 85mm prime worked pretty well. :D

    Great picture! clap.gif

Almost everywhere I've been squirles tend to be pretty timid, except for the University of Washington campus (where I work). Stand still and they will come right up to you, expecting to get fed. This guy walked right up to me as I was walking along with my 50mm.

    Thanks schmooo!

As I mentioned earlier, the squirrels around here have no fear of humans, if you’re sitting against a tree, eating a sandwich, and you happen to lean back sandwich in hand, one of the squirrels around here will have no qualms about running down the tree and stealing your sandwich out of your hand. So you always have to have one eye up, looking for...

(Again, this was taken with a 50mm lens) Now if only I can find a market for squirrel pictures, I could make a fortune! rolleyes1.gif

nikon 300mm f4 with a 1.4 TC for a total of 420mm and then a big crop on top of that...the camera was only a 6mp Nikon D50....the lens is awesome, kinda pricey and rather big but Image quality is great

If you want sharp, get yourself the Canon 400 5.6 L.
    Best telephoto for the money.

Maybe this is one of the ones that stole greenpeas sandwich.:D

The sandwich thieves I know, get close enough to easily photography with a 50 1.8.

However I'd love to get my hands on a 400 5.6! With a lens like that, I wouldn't need the sandwiches to lure them with.

Schmooo, love your work! That is the interesting part of squirrels, some areas they will crawl up the inside of your pant leg, which isn't a big deal if you are a woman rolleyes1.gifin other areas like around my house, they wont even intrude on your full birdfeeder thanks to a family of Coopers Hawks guarding the yard for us.

Just today I was watching a live wildlife episode out my window as a squirrel was rooting around for food, and a Cooper's chased it right into the brush! The poor squirrel must have almost died from freight as the hawk almost had apiece of its fur!
