I was looking around on the net and ran across this lens. I would imagin if they do it would be very expensive. But it would be great for low light, sports , indoor shooting :)

Canon EF 200mm f / 1.8L Ultrasonic?

It is out of production sorry to say. So is the 50/1.0. The 85/1.2 is still in production however.

Kinda figured it would be. Did they replace it with the 70-200L f/2.8?

The 200/1.8 is on a popular auction site regularly for about $3K. The seller is in Korea and he has great feedback. I myself worry about such transactions whee I can't drive/fly to the seller in case of error.

Personally I think I want the 300/2.8 for the IS in it. The 200/1.8 is in a class by itself, nothing as good has been seen before, or since.

The 1.8 would have been great for Hockey shots. But I think I'm gonna shoot for the 70-200L f/2.8

I would like to go higher on the mm but someone said 400mm would be overkill on a hocky rink.

I have a 70-200/2.8L I am selling to get the IS version. I have the 400mm too. I agree, the 70-200 will be best on the hockey rink. Or maybe one body with a 100mm and another with a 200mm.

I would like to see Canon bring back the 200/1.8 in a new IS version someday soon. That would be an awesome lens, especially with the digital cameras focal multipliers. We can only hope.

Supposing one of these existed, imagine how *small* and *handholdable* it would be! :-)

Patch29, I'd like to see an IS 200/1.8 too. Heck how about a flat rate income tax to go with it. :>

I am in on both counts. Nikon did release a 200/2.0 VR lens last year, we can only hope Canon will do the same.
