Winslow and I got out early today since it may be the last nice morning for quite awhile.:cry

The light suited him well...I think.

Even the moon looks surreal in the early hours.

109143337-L.jpg

Of course there are the birds that love to bask in the warmth.

109143520-L.jpg

Anyone who knows what this one is...please let me know.

Not a great shot but it was a nice part of this morning.

This train broke the silence...but brought a different photo op with it's rude emergence into the landscape.

Great shot .I notice you can't see the tail ....I bet that's because it was wagging so fast , not even the camera could catch it !!!

Great light and a good shot (something I don't often say very often about doggie pics).

Since you aded more shots in they are excellent too especially hte moon and the train. I think that's the best train shot posted in this forum. Don't get swelled up now because its the only train shot I've seen in Wildlife and Nature so far. :lol4

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

    Thanks, Harry. :D

I figured it would be okay to include the train since it was a part of this morning shoot. (besides, I thought it was the best shot of the bunch)

I believe that bird is a Northern Shrike. Really nice shot. I'm not a bird watcher but I did stay in a Holliday Inn Express last night.

    Northern Illinois.

I was never interested in naming birds until I took up digital photography. This one was a stranger to me...I don't recall ever seeing one before.

I just looked it up in my book. I believe it is a Northern Shrike because it is very light in color...while the Loggerhead is a little darker and a little smaller. Essentially they look alike. It seems that I was lucky to see this one since their numbers are diminishing with the Loggerhead being the rarer of the two.

    Thanks for the input.:D

I think you are correct...thanks for steering me in the right direction.:D I have the reference material, but it's easier when you know where to start.

Well...I'm not positive, but it seems that it's a Northern Shrike from the info I have. If it is, I have the picture to prove it.mwink.gif

I'm going to post this on a Canadian web site where I know a guy that KNOWS birds and see what he has to say.

It is a northern shrike you can tell by the white stripe above the eye!

A loggerhead shrike the black goes above the eye like so:

Thanks Ric! If you remember where you saw him its quite possible you will see him there again. I've been seeing this loggerhead in the same area in the last month or so. Maybe you'll get another chance! thumb.gif
