Looking for a flash bracket

Not just any flash bracket, though - something like this Quantum with a 1/4 20 male screw at the top, without the utterly ridiculous $130 price tag. I mean seriously - who's kidding who here? Any ideas?

The minute you talk "Quantum QFlash", you are talking serious money. I haven't seen anything that directly replaces this, but you could take a straight bracket:

... and attach an extension:

(or if you're feeling adventurous:)

... and then add a quick release of your choice.

etc.
Tighten and check often.

Now that I know how you will use it, if you don't get enough height/separation with that setup, you might look at:

I honestly don't know, and I couldn't find a really detailed review either.
Regarding the height, I found this discussion:

I had considered the Samigon bracket for use with a hotshoe flash and a small umbrella, using this bracket to join:
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=productlist&A=details&Q=&sku=50067&is=REG&addedTroughType=categoryNavigation
and an off-the-camera cord.
I wound up using a Stroboframe Quick-Flip 350 and a homemade "scoop" on the flash. I had to make a "stop" for the vertical side of the flip (because the scoop changed the geometry of the system), but I like the light it produces for high ceilings, outdoors and odd-colored rooms.
For lower ceilings, I forget the bracket and use a bounce configuration plus a small fill card (like the business card trick).
