^5 ... great stuff. Hey can you get an elephant to fit in a dewdrop? I haven't done any reflective macros ... but one would think the fish would be upside down...???

Thanks for the comments all
Gary- you are quite correct- I puposely carefully placed a pic of the fish behind the dewdrops upside-down so it would come out the right way up
I suspect you could do an elephant provided it was in good light and a fair distance away from the drop

Ahhh ... there's the rub ... a pix ... and this whole time I was thinking you brought the tank/bowl to the dew drop. Again, well done ... too much thinking for my little cream-cheese, pea-brain.
Apologies in advance from a newcomer to this game....
So the orange-ish blur in the back ground of the last two pics is a picture of the fish being reflected in the drops? That is pretty cool. I was thinking PhotoShop right off the bat and now I feel guilty!

Thanks for the comments Sid, Schmoo and Nikolai- the fish were just for fun.
controld -you are correct- the object to be refracted is placed carefully behind the drops only about 2-3cms away. At this magnification (about 3:1) the subject comes out totally OOF in the background. Hence also the nice fuchsia colour in the background of the 2nd flower shot and the orange/white in the background of the fish shots.

Ever tried to get a fish to swim upside-down ?
Actually there are some cave dwelling catfish that do

Yes I have ... hence your photographic skill was shadowed by your animal training skill ... until you let the cat out of the bag ... showing that common sense in the form of a pix in the background is better utilization of time and energy than training goldfish (which have a 30 minute or so memory).
Gary
PS- When I attempted to emulate your photo at home, whenever I tried to help the fish swim upside down, they tended to swim out of the picture when the water rushed out of the bowl. *sigh* Beaten by the Law of Gravity again.

Great Macro shots as usual Brian.
I'm about to get my first macro lens and will try to attempt some of these incredible shots..... Emphasis on TRY.
Seems like I'm always on the relentless pursuit of doing things I can't do yet.
Ah the ideas!
I can just see putting a picture of a bride and groom in the water drop!
Or a young child...
Can you see this on the front of a baby announcement card?

Well hope you find the macro world as fascinating as I do .
Part of being human is trying new things. Good luck with the new lens.

How do you get the drops to stay put?????????
Thanks Dee
These are very small natural dewdrops on the grass outside- they are actually very stable as long as you don't knock them. Yes you could do a refraction with just about anything but it would be a bit weather dependent.
