I went to Golden Gate Park in search of some autumn color and was disappointed. So we then drove to Stowe Lake to see what the birds and turtles were up to.

I was stalking this heron and was having all kinds of exposure problems with my Sony F828. It is now in the shop getting fixed. Thankfully I purchased a 5-year warranty for the camera!

This was shot at ISO 64, F2.8 at 1/25 of a second. I couldn't duplicate this if I tried!

Well, you all know that I love that stuff, Dee!!

Yours are particularly good. That first one is a gem, IMO. And, yes, those are one of a kind, smile!

ginger (sorry about your camera, glad about your warranty. This time I purchased what I could from B&H, a three yr warranty on top of the one yr. for my 30D.)

    Thanks Ginger
I now know if I want to duplicate this I need a couple of ND filters on the camera -- it's sure worth trying. I love the result and I'm glad you liked them too! Thanks for commenting, I appreciate it!

Good attempts Dee but you're not quite there yet. They seem to work better with a cleaner background. This is something I've been trying w/o too much sucess. Hopefully when I get my Singh-ray vari ND filter I'll do better,

Hey, "good attempts" on something that was totally accidental due to my camera misfunction is fine praise indeed!

I'm not really a "bird" photographer at all, it's just this big white thing was sticking out of the water just begging to be photographed. The light was horrible! The "abstracts" are better than the other shots I got!rolleyes1.gif

After all the bird was such a camera hog it walked out of the water right in front of me! It's almost as if it were thinking, "I know your camera is broken and I'm going to drive you nuts!"rolleyes1.gif

The really sad thing is that you got better abstracts accidentally than I have intentionally. Don't do it again.

Since I can't seem to get a good bird shot at all any more. My best shots have been people for whom I have no releases.

This gives me a whole new approach to birds!! Blur with a generic background.

Dee, I do like yours, don't need generic myself, but well, gotta stretch......on birds. If I keep getting results with people I might have to deal with releases, then the people thing will go south.............

Harry, thanks for the link. Criminelly, why didn't someone tell me before that we could work up those shots!!!!

Boy, there's a fine line between having the right light, the right shutter speed set on the camera and pushing the shutter down at the right time isn't there?

I was trying to get a nice posed still shot! I was fighting with my metering and not seeing what I liked on the EVF, switched to spot meter and that looked bad too... all in all it was a frustrating event. Just about the time I thought I had it all right the darn bird takes off -- to travel maybe 3 feet!

I was shooting with the 707 yesterday, trying to remember how to use the camera again, and man, I'd forgotten how bad that shutter lag was! I hope I get my 828 back soon!
