What was your ISO on that shot?

Is the shot a crop, or is it full size?

    What is an MC protector?
    Sid.

Awais i can only assume it is the angle of the sun that ruined some & not others.

ne_nau.gif Doesn't look bad to me, Awais. The focus is a little soft, but at full size, the noise is fine, at least to me.

The fewer filters on your lens, the better for the image quality. I shoot with no filters 90% of the time and use a polarizer or ND only as needed.

Your shot is mostly just low in contrast. This could be caused by your filters, the lighting at the time or a characteristic of your lens. Here's your shot with a contrast increase, some noise reduction and a bit of sharpening:

Yes any light that casts across your lens from an angle not coming from the subject can cause problems with your photos. With the Sony S1 a point & shoot camera you'll just have to be aware and watch your lighting. With your Sony H5 it has a lens hood which will help block out stray light that could come from an angle that would put a bad light cast across your lens.

It looks to me more of a matter of a very severe crop. At the full image size it looks fine. When you crop down to just the dragonfly's head, I see a lot of artifacts from heavy noise reduction and sharpening. I blame it on the crop, not the filter in this case.

    Awais,

The subject is backlit by the sun and there are no harsh shadows on the opposite end. Since the image's EXIF says that there's an exposure bias of 1 and no flash for fill, I'm assuming (if you didn't use a reflector) that you did a bit of post processing that led to the increased noise levels of the image.
