I took myself up to Lick Observetory today. Here's a really quick shot
of their 32" refractor. Once the biggest telescope in the world. Built in
1888, Lick Observetory is run by the University of California, Santa Cruz.




I'll post a few more in the next day or so.

Isn't it this one where the astronomer (originally) rode in a chair at the back of it while looking through the eyepieces?

I wonder what the objective glass weighs?

Ohhhhhhh nice Scope Can't say I've ever had the pleasure of looking into the eye piece of one of them babies.

Very cool, Ian. I haven't been to Lick since 1984, but one of my lab's instruments has been going there regularly:

FLITECAM at Lick (It's the blue-ish thing)

If you're an observer there, it's (not surprisingly) very rustic compared with Keck in Hawaii. And yes, you can visit the grave of Mr. Lick! Kinda creepy.
