since there is something covering her feet, why not try 3/4 crop (knee level, up) it will bring her a lot closer to the viewer. Otherwise it's very cheeky shot.
As for the era's photography I believe they've used something called oil paint and canavas. Must have been a very low ISO sensor as it took months to complete the exposure.
