Hi! I am hoping someone here can help me. I have a Canon DSLR Rebel 6.3mp camera and I am trying find out what the specific battery name or item number is for my camera. I went to the canon site but the earliest camera they list is the XT and I dont think that is what I have. I need specific info because I want to put it on my "christmas list" and if I am not specific the person the list is for will never figure it out on their own.

Also, are there any other good accessories for that camera such as the remote control or an external flash that people know specific info about?

THANKS!!!

Next up...looking for an inexpensive lens to add to the camera (I only have the one that came with the camera).....

    Try this page.

From there, it looks like your battery is: Battery Pack BP-511.

    Does that help?

    I went to:

    http://www.usa.canon.com/
    Clicked on Support->Consumer
    Choose:
    • EOS (SLR) Camera Systems
    • Digital EOS Cameras
    • EOS Digital Rebel
As for accessories, I would *highly* suggest getting/asking for the Wireless Remote Controller RC-5. I had one on my old Elan and it was my favorite camera accessory ever. I really wish they'd carried it over to the 20/30D. It's only $30 list price.

Thanks-I went to products rather than support-doh!

Thanks for the recommendation on the remote too-I was thinking about it and how it could be a nice accessory and its something I might not think to buy-but if its around $30 I will definately put it on my list!

thanks so much....I knew I could get the help I needed here!

    Glad I could help!

As for lenses... it really depends on what you want to photograph. Portrait, Landscape, Macro, etc.... there are affordable and pricey lenses for all types. Primes are cheaper, Zooms are more flexible.

The Speedlight flashes are very nice, but many people have non-Canon ones that are cheaper perform similarly. Maybe someone else will chime in here.

Thanks for your input. I like photographing nature-bugs, flowers animals...so I am thinking either a macro or a tele (yeah I know I can't make a decision!) My grandfather gave me a macro for and FD mount and I got the adapter to be able to use it and it works ok-i am still figuring it out! but I like the idea of a good zoom to get squirrels and stuff without having to be on top of them:) They dont like that as much...:)

    thanks again....

Instead of buying the OEM batteries, you might want to save a bit (actually a lot) and buy generic batteries. I've had great success with generics for my point and shoot cameras that I've bought off of E-Bay. I just bought 3 of these for my incoming XTi.

Long link, but basically an E-Bay search for the terms Canon Rebel Battery -charger. HTH
