Tomorrow I will have access to shoot a catwalk. I use a 350D, 20-22 Canon / 50mm Sigma / 480 flash / battery grip.

I am going to attempt to focus my exposures on the models and little else.

Here are two sources of inspiration \, note how motion blur has been used to effect and light on the models is the only source used.

I am wondering if this is only ambient light?
I know I should start to think about focal lengths but its not sunk in I use a 10-22 My Apature at 4.0 should create a fine DOF for the models details. Can I push down to 1.4 on the 50mm if I am 1-2 m away from the subject?

Is a tripod used?
Flash, AV flash? Slow sync shutter speed flash?

I am also considering panning.

I want little of the background to feature. Do you think I should make exposures that reflect this and then Mask out the shadows? Multiply/ Shadow /highlight unmasked background?

.........................................................................................................
I will also do some backstage work I was thinking about setting my camera like so:

sh speed 40-60

ISO variable

Flash slow sync

Flash compensation variable.

I like this:

Any ideas, suggestions, corrections gladly appreciated. Project ETA 16 hrs from post.

well, I went to the rehersal. I have settled to approach the catwalk with pan and zoom inny-outy, but I dont like the results. I think I will attempt some slow sync flash in Av to get a crisp line in the motion.

tonight without thw ss flash they are way to blurry. I will post my results to see what I could have done better.
