Ok, so I have upgraded myself by one more step, and don't know how best to learn how to use it outside of trial and error. I have the distinct impression from other posts on dgrin that I should invest in a lumiquest promax kit and/or an amnibounce set. Should I have both? Eventually I want to work my way up to having a basic studio lighting set-up, much of which I would like to have be portable for outdoors shots. So my question to all fo you is can you recommend any sites about flash photography and what would be the top accesories I should get for the 580ex.

Thanks!
Kristina

Flash diffusers offer a way to control light. Myself, I've got an Omnibounce
    and that works pretty well.

Do you need more than one? You might want different things to control
your light source. Like something to bounce it, something to diffuse it
maybe something to warm it up a bit.

Search this forum and you'll find some great stuff on flash photography.

This link is probably one of the best places on the web to start your learning. I know learned a lot from it (but that's not really say a whole lot:D). I hope it helps you out some as well.

The instruction booklet is an invailable source of knowledge for learning what your new strobe will do.

As for need more than 1 type of diffuser....start with one and learn it well....then if you think you need another type then purchase or make it.....one step at a time is best.

Learn what the 580 can do when the camera is set to Av Mode, Program mode, and Manual mode.

Learn to bounce the flash off avavilable walls or ceilings. See if you really need the diffusers.

Thanks so much everyone! I plan to get the Omnibounce and experiment with that for a while. I do a lot of outdoor work but am planning on moving up to some informal portraits for a project at work. The instruction book is a great resource I agree but for some reason Canon's explinations leave something to be desired for me. I am more of a hands on learner anyway! :)
