summer friend in a winter coat
Look who popped into our yard for a visit this morning:
Not a fantastic photo, I know, but nice to be able to get it nonetheless. I had to crank the ISO up to 1600, underexpose and push it back up in RAW later. All in all, I guess it could look worse. Certainly not the results I used to get with my big VR lens, but I'm once again impressed by this little travel size 70-300/D.
I was out for a walk with the dog and saw her (I think) bounding around in the woods between our house and the new one going up on the little hill behind us. She saw us and didn't think much of us. Actually, she was watching the construction pretty intently, maybe they have been tossing her scraps? Regardless, had time to run back in the house and get my camera. She was quite cooperative and gave me a few poses. I got pretty close, about 20 yds was the minimum she'd give me, but she never quite ran off completely, just retreated into thicker branches where photos were impossible.
I don't know my foxes all that well, but I'm pretty sure this is mom or one of the more grown young 'uns in a winter coat. Simply because she's so used to the area, and us. They looked like this in May:

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"
I was actually surprised how un-difficult she was... but I guess living in our neighborhood, she has to be. I probably could have gone back in the house and grabbed my tripod, but at that point, I would have been pushing my luck. Something abou it being 9am and going to work too
