I shot these with my "fantastic plastic" 50mm. I am not sure why I like these. It's probably the deep blacks. Anyhow, these are shots of the Angus cattle that back up to my property.

Nicely composed but a tad dark. Some flash would have helped a lot.

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

Thanks. It was at dusk. I tried some with a flash, but the flashed really washed out the colors. I didn't do any post processing other that a crop here and there. I really need to purchase a decent flash.

No. 2 looks sad. And horribly skinny! Are you supposed to be able to count a cows ribs? Nice rich color on that shot though, although the others are a bit dark.

I believe number 3 is the same cow. It doesn't look so bad there. The cattle all behind me look well fed. I'm not sure why it looks like that. Truth be told, I never noticed it.

At least these cows have a pastured are they are not stuck in a stock yard. It makes me sad to see the miles of cattle living in those conditions.

Try a slight levels adjustment to try to balance the light.

No stock yard. They have about 200 acres of pasture to roam.

Good job on the exposures! I have a black lab and find it very difficult to get good composition and color on black animals. Yours are quite nice!

It is the purpose of life that each of us strives to become actually what he is potentially. We should be obsessed with stretching towards that goal through the world we inhabit.

Thanks Dick. Cows can be rather sublime can't they?

A wide open aperture and low light helped bring out the blacks I believe.
