In mock-turtleneck land, we have Adium, a client that supports everything, including GoogleTalk. Does a similar one exist for Windows? Trillian does everything BUT googletalk.

Hmmm. I saw your title and was going to suggest Trillian. ne_nau.gif

EDIT: Isn't Google Talk just Jabber, really? Does Trillian do Jabber?

You need trillian PRO... not free. and yeah, i guess there is some plugin or hack that will do it in the free version, but the few google links I read say its "messy"

    i did find: www.meebo.com

simple, but should work... i want it mainly so I can see you two guys anyway (figures you'd be the ones to respond immediately lol3.gif)

It's not really all that "messy" to configure Trillian Pro to work with Google.

    http://www.google.com/support/talk/bin/answer.py?answer=24077

Check that link for a step-by-step.

Also check out www.miranda-im.org for a free, open source alternative to Trillian. It too supports Jabber/Google.
Canon 30D and some stuff for it :wink

there's no way I'm going to PAY for an IM client.

Hahahaha, I thought only an someone as anti-Mac as me could come up with calling Mac users mock turtlenecks. That's almost as bad...well, maybe I exaggerated a bit earlier, but it sure ain't a compliment.

No knock on you, Doc... it's just funny that depending on what industry you're in, something else should always be free.

    I also use Trillian (non-Pro). :D

oh come on, you're just being a snoot! IM has been free forever, that's like starting to charge for email! mind you, i wouldn't hack Tpro, just see absolutely no need to pay for something thats legit and free from so many other sources.

and btw, I've given up, I don't want to talk to anyone anyway! lol3.gif

Guilty! I am a software nazi (part of my day job)... I think Trillian is a cut above the others, and I keep *meaning* to actually buy a copy. :D It's hard when the free version does all I want.

Not quite. The protocol and exchange of email is "free" unless you consider the cost of an Internet connection in the first place. Also, while the email services may be free, more often than not the software to read and send email is not -- whether it be included in the cost of the OS or as part of a suite of programs.

Sure, there are free email programs just as there are free IM programs. It's a matter of whether those free offerings give you the features that their commercial counterparts do. mwink.gif

I bought Trillian Pro several years ago. Paid for it once, been using it literally every day since. Good return on the "investment".
