I am assuming wide angle is the place for not strictly "photography" related issues... if not, I apologise.

On January 2nd, I am supposed to be getting on a plane to the Maldives. I thank God that I had not decided to go one week earlier. I have a number of friends currently in Phuket, and thankfully they are all safe. One of my colleagues is not so lucky; he has lost his wife, 2 of his 3 children and his parents in law.

Please say a prayer to whatever entity you believe in for the safe return of those still missing and for the local families and communities destroyed by this horrendous event.

And then please do something practical. Please dig deep into your pockets and send money. As someone who used to live in Indonesia and has travelled extensively all around the region, I can assure you there is NOTHING there to help these people rebuilt their communities.

PLEASE find whatever your local charitable agency is and give as much as you can.

Unfortunately, a lot of people were hurt by the recent tsunamis. Fortunately, we in the USA have two more days to make charitable contributions and be able to deduct them from our 2004 taxes. I encourage you to find a reputable tax-exempt organization and help out.
