Our local group had a get together again this evening. Boy, was it fun! Thought I would share some of the neat areas for our shoot...downtown at night. Gotta love 45 degrees in Minnesota this time of year.

The Stone Arch Bridge...

A shot of a walking bridge from atop...

The Hennipen Avenue Bridge...

Another from the Stone Arch Bridge on the right side. The blue lights on the building looking through the arch is the Guthrie Theatre.

and a close up of one part of the Hennipen Avenue bridge leading into town...

Last but not least, our wonderful city of Minneapolis...

Very nice! I've been in the Twin Cities area a couple of times this year, but I didn't have much of an oportunity to take any pictures.

I particularly like the first and the fourth.

The first one I really like because it's an original shot of MPLS that I haven't seen before. The usual angles have been done before.

Used the Midnight Action on this photo once I did curves/levels in PS. All are RAW shoots and do my initial post processing there (DDP). I had good light even though it was diminishing into evening but had a rail to brace myself as the tripod would not fit.

    Thank you very much all
for taking the time to stop by and comment. It is fun sharing a passion with others who "get" it. My family usually thinks I'm a bit over the top (so what else is new) but they realized a long long time ago we'd have thousands of images around the house. Amazing what 30 years accumulation can do (who knows how many were lost in moves and whatnot).

I sincerely appreciate the kind words and enjoy this forum with so many knowledgeble people contributing. Happy Thanksgiving to you all.

The top one is FANTASTIC. I love the shapes of the bridge, I love the way you have set the exposure with the repeating crescents in the light, and I love the way you have framed it -- the convergence of the bridge is exactly in a "power point" in the frame by the rule of thirds.

There is a lot of "meat" for the eye to pay attention to... the shapes, the sky, the lights... all of them draw you into the frame. It really, really holds attention.

Excellent photo. The other one of the bridge is "nice" as well, but just compare the two... the second one leads you out of the frame... it just doesn't feel as powerful.

Very well done on #1. clap.gif

i love these night shots. they are so clear and sharp. The different angles you shot at are what caught my eye and kepy my attention. i also agree that your first shot is your best. it feels more balanced when comparing the two. I also really like the colors you captured in your 3rd photo.

Heheh, gee, just when I was having fun! I will say that it's about perseverance. Shot those venues before but wanted them better as lighting, stillness of the water, wind (or lack of it better said) were some of the requirments for a new shoot. Sometimes after shooting at a location and reviewing makes me want to return to see if I could get a better angle/vantage point, better exposures, etc. The Hennipen Avenue bridge is one such example. I'll go there again when the water is calm to capture the reflections. Also have some ideas for angles and vantage points.

The last one (Minneapolis shot) was taken a week after my first shoot from that location as I had left the IS on when mounted on the tripod..didn't catch it until post processing....Had to go back......because I've always wanted a real nice copy in case I was to enlarge it.

Thanks for your comments all. Getting feedback is the most powerful way to improve.
