LAB and flattening

I read (continuously :scratch) the LAB discussion, many solutions continue to evade me. But ONE repeatedly.

I make my changes in LAB, then go to mode>RGB for saving and potentially printing. A dial up box tells me my adjustments will be lost. Well thats no fun.

Any way to change my mode and keep my LAB changes?

Just flatten the image before you change back to RGB. If you think you may want to go back and tweak the image in LAB later, you can save a copy of the PSD file in LAB before you flatten.

I'm suprised. I thought I was missing something, some function. a RAW original, a PSD for LAB a PSD for the final, a JPG, it becomes diffiucult to manage. Even if you employ a form of DAM, which admittedly I dont do very well.

    Thanks

Well, it makes sense that PS can't do LAB when it's in RGB. You have to commit to it before you leave that colorspace.

Sure that makes sense. I think I just get stuck on the logic of layers. Inuitively I feel that I should be able to just change modes and a new layer would appear above ready for RGB. I think that because I am not yet comfortable with restraints that we have to work within layers. One day it will all become clear, ha, ha.

Irrespective I am now more clear.
