As a sponsor of the RTC series this year, I spent most of the race in the course Monday and Tuesday taking pictures.

Here's a few from the GS
Chris Klug

Jasey Jay Anderson

Ryan MAcDonald

And some from the SL

Adam Smith

I'm not sure on this guys name
112503772-M.jpg
Ryan MacDonald

The trail they use for this race has very challenging lighting. If they start on time (6:00am) it's even more difficult. The sun is just over the top of the hill for most of the race, so shooting uphill results in backlit shots almost every time. There are lots of shadows and hot spots and of course the ugly blue snow if you get your white balance wrong. Last years images were aweful, but I'm pretty happy with what I got this year. You can see more GS shots at: http://donek.smugmug.com/gallery/2166230
and more SL shots at: http://donek.smugmug.com/gallery/2166289
Any feedback would be appreciated.

Great stuff! And a first for alpine boarding, don't think I've seen any here yet. thumb.gif

This one is my fav, perfect panning technique:

That was my first attempt at panning. I think I took about 100 shots and got about 8 good ones. The problem is the riders and board are so dynamic that you can get them clear in the chest, but there's too much movement in the arms head legs and board. It was fun playing with.

Great shots! You did a great job on the white balance since it's so easy for everything to have blue cast to it. Were these taken hand held?

Also, I just wanted to say that you make superior snowboards! My boyfriend has two of them and just loves them.

Everything was hand held, but I'm sure at times people were wondering what I was doing laying in the snow. When I was shooting more than 200mm I usually had my elbows resting on the snow or I was sitting and resting my elbows on my knees. I hate carrying a monopod on the hill. It's kind of a pain to keep track of.

I'm glad your boyfriend likes his boards.

Adam through Ryan are the three I dig. Jasey Jay is damn fine panning.

Shooting snow sports is tough and you've done a nice job!
