I ran into several articles on Frans Lanting's recent book: "Life: A Journey Through Time" and decided to check it out. The images in this project are simply amazing. Here's a link to the website where you can view a slideshow showcasing the project.

Lanting spent several years traveling the globe to capture images that evoke the evolution of our planet. It's an abitious concept but I think Frans Lanting pulled it off. Spectacular.
