Christmas Lights

This is the first Christmas I've been shooting with a digital DSLR. Would like to gather a decent collection of stock photography of Christmas lights on houses. I took a few the other night and am wondering what people thought of them, and if anyone had any technique tips?

I have no tips on such photography, but I am more drawn to the first 2 close-up images. Very nice! :D

I really like the first three, nice, clear, well exposed images.

Fourth one, the twilight kinda takes away from the image and I'm not sure if it's out of focus or if the blow highlights are just making it look that way. The house looks in focus, but the lights are a bit blurred.

Fifth shot is my least favorite. Yellow/orange tinge and OOF. Also, the reflection on the street cone is a bit distracting. :)

Again though, the first 2 are reallly nice and the third is well shot, thumb.gif but the top of the house is just a bit too different without lights.

yeahthat.jpg Got to agree with Phyxius there. However, I still think #3 works (personally) with your stated intention of shooting stock. It pays to have a range of shots in the arsenal and the darker top of the image would allow for advertising or other copy. Noth that I have any real experience with that - just my opinion.ne_nau.gif

I like the shots but not sure what you mean by stock. If you are speaking of a stock agency like istockphoto.com or something then they would want a property release for each shot from the property owner I'm sure. none the less, the shots are great and I think I just may capture some of my areas private displays this year. There are a few folks around here that have seperate power feeds put in by the power company just to run the lights that they put up for the holidays. If I am able to capture some good images of those "super lit" homes I will toss them up here on D-Grin for all to see, who knows maybe if enough are into it we could do a thread of just that from our different areas around the contry, globe, whatever.....mike

these are really well shot. Very interesting series. I love night photography. i would suggest to shoot more when its not so dark out so you can see more detail. Just like in your 4th photo. That is my fav shot.
