So I went out yesterday and took pictures all day. What a wonderful day I had. But anyways. This was also the first chance I had to use my new lens. The Bigma or for those that don't know, the Sigma 50-500mm EX. I absolutely love this lens and thank everyone for their comments and input on it when I asked. I am very happy I made this addition to my lens family. So here they are. My first shots..

These are not cropped, well the last is but only to crop out a branch in the far corner. Did I mention I love this lens. Here is a link to the full gallery these came from. All but a few are with the new lens from yesterday.

Congrats with your Bigma. I can clearly see why you're so happy with it.
    Good work.

    Thanks for sharing.

Looks like a very nice addition to your arsenal, Michael.thumb.gif

I like the first two better than the last two. clap.gif

All the branches in the last two seem to make the image cluttered. That is not unusual when you try to shoot hawks - they always manage to keep some timber between themselves and the shooter.

Good shots lifesdisciple. Funny how you get a lens, it serves you well, think you'll never really need anything longer, go somewhere, see what you missed because of your smallish lens, and wish you had something longer. I could have used 500mm at Ding recently :cry eek7.gif

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

I hear ya. I've always felt that I needed more distance, just never had the cash. Work has been real busy lately so I had a few extra bucks to spend. Still wouldn't mind having a fixed 500mm f2.8 though. Not in my budget for many many years. New camera next. Maybe this spring. Thanks for the kind words.

Thank you every one for your nice words. I do love this lens. Need to go shoot some more. Practiced a little last night trying to hand hold it and using just a monopod. Thing is heavy.:D

hey I've A ?? for you. If you shot it at 1/500 or 1/1000 shutter speed do you think it could be hand held to shoot some sports like baseball??

I want a 2.8 also but like you$$. maybe this would work? & i'd get more distance for wildlife.

dbaker- I know this was for lifesdisciple ... but ... I use the Bigma for daytime sports. Usually soccer and swimming ... but it will focus fast enough for baseball .... no problem. I find little problem handholding the sucker ... but you'll find that others have a different opinion. Check out my sports stuff at the link in my signature.

lifesdisciple .... nicely done for day one. The lens is good for people sniping also.

I'm pretty sure that if I shoot at faster speeds an I am trying to freeze action shots then I could most likely hand hold it. It's just trying to keep it still for detail that it seems to shake on me a bit. But I haven't had time to use it enough yet. Today I took to bird shots hand holding it. I propped it a bit on a ledge but the pics came out great. Another option you have for just a bit more is the Sigma 70-200mm f2.8. Put a 2x tele on it and you have a nice lens that's a bit faster IMO. I use my dads when he lets me :D. But I love my Bigma and wouldn't trade it for the world. Good luck with your decision.
