Not bad for a quick grab out my back door, huh?
No PS, other than levels adjustment and a tiny bit of sharpening. And yes, I should probably clone out that object in the lower right hand corner.
Thanks for looking.

Moon exposures are easy. Shoot raw so you can get a couple stops of correction if you blow it. Set your camera on spot metering (partial metering on the 20D, the one with the "()" symbol). Then use -1 exposure comp. I get great results that way.

Of course I could have said that the moon calendar WAS my comment...but it's not...SO...
Yes, you should clone out the little box thing in the bottom right corner and you should clone me in! I'd LOVE to see that sight out my window in the morning Color me jealous!
I like the purple dusk of the mountains, but I think the moon is over exposed. Was this RAW? I don't REALLY have a RAW editing program so I don't know the wonders of it, but apparently you could work magic and keep the foreground bright while toning down exposure on the moon. Or you could have shot two pictures, one metered for the moon and one for the foreground.
But, as a quick grab in the AM it's quite nice
Sorry again for the hijack. poke

I pretty much shoot everthing raw these days, so I could do a selective exposure blending in PS. However, that's what the scene really looked like, at least to my eye. The CS2 raw converter has an option to show you any blowouts, and the moon is not blown out, it's just bright. You're not going to see crater detail at that focal length anyway. What I liked about the shot was the pure whiteness of the moon against alpen glow of the mountain. As I say, that's what it really looked like.
What I'm kicking myself about is that I missed the actual moonrise which probably occured a few minutes earlier. That might have been a much better shot, but sadly I'll never know. The moon rise is occuring well after dusk now. :cry

Very nice light. Not bad at all, Joel.
I'm looking at this on a different monitor now and I agree 100% that the moon is NOT overexposed.
Stupid LCD screens...

Thanks, Maverick. Kingman is actually very close to Nevada and they're very similar in geography. We just moved out to the southwest here, and I really love it.
